Burn out

Another summer is about to end, and like every year we found ourselves overwhelmed by the emergencies resulting from fires. According to Lega Ambiente, this year alone 62,623 hectares of land have been destroyed in Italy due to burnings. Following these events, 552 people were reported for arson.
This leads us to reflect: what drives this impressive number of people to start a fire? The will to create new lands for construction, farming or agriculture is where I put my two cents, perhaps because I refuse to believe that anyone does it for the sake of it. Unfortunately, this cause, too, cannot be ruled out, at least in some cases.
We just have to learn from the past, as it’s always the case, and report how important it is to protect our woods and forests, which must be preserved like our lungs.

Un’altra estate sta per finire, e come ogni anno ci siamo ritrovati sommersi dalle emergenze derivanti dai roghi. Secondo Lega Ambiente solo quest’anno in Italia sono stati distrutti 62.623 ettari di terreno a causa dei fuochi. In seguito a questi avvenimenti ben 552 persone sono state denunciate per incendio doloso.
Questo ci porta a dover fare una riflessione: cosa spinge questo impressionante numero di persone ad appiccare un incendio? La volontà di creare nuovi terreni per l’edilizia, l’agricoltura e l’allevamento è quello su cui scommetterei, forse perché mi rifiuto di credere che qualcuno lo faccia per il solo gusto di farlo. Purtroppo però anche questa causa non è da escludere, almeno in qualche caso.
Non ci resta che imparare dal passato, come del resto va sempre fatto, e diffondere quanto sia importante proteggere i nostri boschi e le nostre foreste, che vanno tenuti da conto come i nostri polmoni.
